Prostatitis in men

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland (prostate), an organ that produces fluid secretions that are part of semen.Pathology sometimes causes severe pain and problems with potency.It is reasonable to start prostatitis treatment as soon as it is diagnosed.

symptoms

Prostatitis usually affects men between 25 and 50. This pathology is very common.It affects between a third and half of all men on the planet.The problem has many symptoms:

Symptoms of prostatitis
  • a man experiences discomfort and pain when urinating;
  • urine flows slowly, in a thin stream, you need to squeeze it;
  • At night and at other times during the day there is often a desire to relieve oneself.I couldn't help but feel that not all the urine had left the bladder;
  • cloudy urine, mixed with blood;
  • pain in the lower abdomen, back, groin area, and perineum (between the scrotum and anus);
  • also haunted by pain, discomfort in the testicles and penis area;
  • ejaculation occurs with pain;

Symptoms of prostatitis often occur, which are similar to the flu (low temperature, fever).They are characteristic of bacterial type pathology (more on that below).

The reasons

Prostatitis occurs more often in men who have experienced this disease.The problem is caused by:

  • infections of the bladder and urethra;
  • HIV and other diseases contracted by men during sex;
  • injuries in the pelvic area - falling from a bicycle or horse;

A catheter in the urethra to drain urine from the bladder causes prostatitis in men.

Pathology sometimes appears after a prostate biopsy, when tissue samples are taken for analysis.After such a procedure, symptoms of prostatitis in men are rarely observed.

Complications

Due to prostatitis, it can:

    Chronic non-bacterial prostatitis
  • inflammation of the epididymis (epididymitis);
  • sperm count is significantly reduced and infertility occurs;
  • an abscess (cavity filled with pus) appears.

Many studies by scientists have not found a direct link between prostatitis and prostate cancer.

Types of prostatitis

Prostatitis has 5 main types: chronic and acute non-bacterial, chronic and acute bacterial, without symptoms.

  • Not chronic bacteria(aka chronic pelvic pain syndrome).The most common (more than 90% of all patients experience it).Symptoms of prostatitis are unstable, come and go.No pathogens were found in the body.The diagnosis is made if, for at least 3 months, a man experiences pain in the pelvic area, discomfort during urination and other symptoms mentioned above.The exact cause of this disease is unknown, but it may be caused by:
    • neurological problems (neuropathy);
    • prostate irritation, which causes poor urine flow from the bladder;
    • problems with the pelvic floor muscles (dyssynergia);
    • atypical, not yet known to science, viruses, bacteria.
  • Acute non-bacterial.Accompanied by chronic pain in the pelvic area and constant urination problems.
  • Acutely infected.The most serious type of disease.Occurs rarely.Triggered by:
    • E. coli, staphylococci and other bacteria;
    • sexually transmitted diseases (chlamydia, gonorrhea);
    • Candida fungus.
    Prostate diagnosis

    Symptoms increase rapidly.Discomfort in the pelvic area is accompanied by pain in the genitals, fever, nausea, and burning pain when urinating.Acute bacterial prostatitis can cause severe and life-threatening complications such as abscesses, inability to urinate, and low blood pressure.

  • Chronically infected.Pathology may not be felt for several years.Symptoms are similar to the acute bacterial type, but not as severe.
  • Without symptoms.Found by accident.No symptoms.Ultrasound showed signs of inflammation, and blood tests showed increased levels of prostate specific antigen.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is made using:

  • digital rectal examination;
  • urine analysis.It is necessary to determine whether there is an infection in the prostate gland;
  • blood test.Prostatespecific antigen levels are checked.Tests reveal signs of inflammation;
  • Ultrasound of the genitourinary system.It is prescribed when the above tests are not enough to make an accurate diagnosis.Prostate ultrasound is best done through the anus (transrectally method).

Also, sometimes doctors analyze prostate secretions.To get it, the gland is massaged.

Tests may be prescribed for various sexually transmitted infections that cause inflammation of the prostate.

A professional diagnosis will allow you to prescribe the right treatment for prostatitis in men.

Treatment

If the prostatitis is bacterial, the doctor prescribes:

  • Antibiotics.Their type depends on the bacteria identified.You need to take medicine for a month and a half.If the symptoms are very severe, antibiotics are given immediately intravenously.
  • Alpha blockers.Medicines relax the muscles of the bladder where the prostate connects to it.Relieves pain during urination.
  • Healthy and unhealthy prostate
  • Analgesic- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

You cannot prescribe medicine yourself.Only a doctor determines how to treat prostatitis.

Prevention

To prevent prostatitis:

  • warm sitz bath;
  • apply a heating pad to the lower abdomen or back;
  • stop drinking alcohol, caffeine, foods that increase acidity (spicy, salty);
  • We drink a lot of fluids (without sugar).In this way we will wash the genitourinary system;bacteria will not have time to multiply;
  • Let's try not to ride a bike for a long time, not to sit for a long time;
  • do not forget about the hygiene of the penis and perineum;
  • we use contraceptives;
  • We play sports.Simple cardio exercises will be enough - start jogging, swim in the pool, do a light warm-up.

Prevention of prostatitis should be part of your lifestyle.A simple way to protect the body.
